@Ian – I understand and respect your opinion. Muscle loss as we age is referred to as “sarcopenia”, but it is preventable well into our 60’s. Muscle loss is certainly a variable I should have mentioned in the article (need to update it). I was going to say — when I used to run cross country in high school I was 8-9 and my goal right now is to hit 10 and stay there. The difference, or the difficulty, with the above 6-7% picture is that guy is a beast. A lot of runners get that low, especially with cross training, lifting, etc, but were never that huge.
